Pursuit Perfect System Reviews the MUTEC PSC50

The British hi-fi magazine Pursuit Perfect System has featured the MUTEC PSC50 in a recent review. In the article, author Terry Ellis examines the influence a 50-ohm cable developed specifically for 10 MHz reference clock connections can have on a high-quality digital playback system.

The article starts from the observation that modern DACs have already reached a very high technical and sonic level. Ellis therefore also sees further potential in the surrounding digital environment: in transports, clocking, and the matching connections between components.

For the review, Pursuit Perfect System used a Matrix Audio setup. Initially, an affordable 50-ohm cable was used. Ellis then replaced this connection with two MUTEC PSC50 cables.

50 Ohms for 10 MHz Reference Clock Connections

In the article, Ellis points out that many 10 MHz reference clock connections are designed for 50 ohms. This distinguishes them from classic coaxial digital connections in hi-fi systems, which typically operate at 75 ohms. For devices with 50-ohm clock inputs or outputs, a correspondingly specified cable such as the MUTEC PSC50 is therefore intended.

The MUTEC PSC50 was developed precisely for this application. Pursuit Perfect System highlights, among other things, the double shielding, low attenuation, oxygen-free copper conductor, gas-injected PE-LCC dielectric, and guaranteed 50-ohm impedance. The high-quality 50-ohm BNC connectors from Damar & Hagen and production in Germany are also mentioned positively.

Listening Comparison with Affordable Standard Cables

The previously used 50-ohm cables had already worked in his setup. Nevertheless, Ellis wanted to find out whether a dedicated clock cable could take the sound further.

In the direct comparison, he describes the sound with the MUTEC PSC50 as fuller, more tonal, and more dynamic. Voices gained more warmth and substance, while complex musical passages appeared more clearly structured in space and better resolved. Ellis describes the effect as obvious and really quite significant.

The PSC50 also made a positive impression with strongly reverberant recordings and densely layered choral voices. For Ellis, the spatial image became more coherent, while individual voices were easier to distinguish from one another.

Essential Audition Award for the MUTEC PSC50

Essential Audition Award for the MUTEC PSC50

In his conclusion, Pursuit Perfect System names the MUTEC PSC50 as the authors current reference for clock cables. For its performance, the PSC50 receives the Essential Audition Award. According to the magazine, the award is given to products that offer high performance and, thanks to their particular qualities, are especially recommended for audition.
